Life Lessons...

This morning on my 8 mile run, I got more than I bargained for.  It started as a windy and rainy long run that I was dreading, and ended with me learning many life lessons from a lady I don't even know.

Coming around mile 7 and in to Grey's Lake is where all the teaching happened.  I was just telling Jenny that I knew that the run was going to be hard because of the weather so I was going to bring my camera.  I figured it would make the run more fun and exciting.  Just as I say that, what is that I see in front of us?  Oh yeah, it's a lady with her husband taking their morning stroll and she is covered in a trash bag liner.  I immediately get a smirk on my face and say "If I had my camera I could also take a picture of her!"  As we run past the couple the lady says loud enough for us to hear, "At least they were smart enough to wear coats."  We were about 100 yards past the couple when all of a sudden I am laughing so hard that I can't run anymore.  I pause to laugh, and go on my way.  In that split second my run had went from horrible to "the best run ever."  I guess I was laughing so hard that I had forgotten how hard it was, and only remembered the enjoyable part at the end.

I didn't have any interaction between with the lady but I learned some very valuable life lessons from the her today, here they are..............

  • Always be prepared
  • Don't take yourself too seriously
  • Laughter is truly the best medicine
  • Just because it's raining doesn't mean you can't exercise outside
  • When life is hard, be PRESENT, forget the past!
  • Be creative,  think outside the box, when life gives you lemons make vodka lemonades!
  • Watch the weather forecast before going outside, or better yet step outside before leaving your house to check the weather
and the most important lesson of all.....
  • Always carry a trash bag- You never know when you might need one!
