It started with an early 5:00am alarm going off, and getting ready for the Copper Creek Triathlon. Now this is the first triathlon that I've done in 2 years, good thing it was a sprint. I set up my transition and at 8:20 the cannon went off for my swim wave. It's a crazy start to the swim, people throwing elbows, kicking you in the face, and running over you if you don't do it first.
A picture of the start of the swim waves.
After swimming 800m, I made it out of the water, no injuries.
Ater a quick picture I'm ready for the transition to the bike.
So on to bike course where there was some pretty good hills. As I'm almost 3/4 of the way done I am shifting up a hill and my chain comes. Really? REALLY?? Not the best time for this to happen! I get off my bike, reconnect my chain while being passed by a bunch of athletes, and hop back on my bike to finish off the hill. Greasy hands and all I completed the 12 mile bike course.
My wonderful spectators!
On to the run course where I don't remember it being so hilly, I start up the first hill and try to gain my "rhythm". At about mile 2, I finally gain my rhythm and find people in front of me to start passing, one at a time. Once we got to the lake where you can see the finish line, I pick out my next victim. It's a 42 year old guy that I'm sick of looking at the back of him and give it all I've got to pass him. About 200m from the finish line, he has the nerve to pass me back. All of a sudden one spectator, he was a fellow competitor, that had already finished, must of saw the frustration on my face and pointed to the guy and yelled at me to "Beat him!" At that moment I got the motivation I needed and started an all out sprint to the finish line. "I BEAT HIM!" I was so happy, and felt great after the finish! Not a bad way to end!!
You can see the guy I was competing against!!
Me with my wonderful supporters!
And who couldn't help but smile with these two little men cheering you on?
After the race, we decided to check out the Des Moines Arts Festival. It was good, but ended up getting really hot. Time for the boys and mom to take a nap, we went back home.
The nap felt amazing and I was rejuvenated to do some housework. My parents came over, and my mom watched the boys while I mowed the lawn and my dad pulled weeds. A race against Mother Nature, it started to get really dark. I started mowing a little bit faster the darker it got. I was almost done when I see sharp lightning. Any sane person would stop and put the mower away, but I decide that I'm so close to finishing that maybe if I start running with the mower I can beat mother nature. I guess I won two times today because I finished before it started raining. A little home cooked meal of roasted chicken with apples, over some honey mustard balsamic noodles and this lady's ready for bed.
