I had the most amazing run this morning, you know the kind that is totally not expected. I started out at 6:00am this morning, my absolute latest possible second I could leave the house so that I could be back before the boys woke up. I walked down the street, to the park, and to my "starting tree." The temperature was perfect, the sun was coming up, and nature was at it's finest.
Running to Waterworks Park I decided that the path I mapped out was just not going to cut it for me today. I was feeling good, and I needed a new change of scenery. I connected with the Great Western Bike Trail and decided I was going to be "that runner" that was too good for streets and sidewalks, and had upgraded to a bike path. Now I have biked down this path many times before and every runner I ever encountered I always thought to myself "man they must be a serious runner." I felt so good, the sun was at my back, there was a slight breeze and I was just enjoying my time listening to music, that I didn't want to turn around. I knew that even though conditions were perfect I still had a timeline I was on. I turned around at 6 1/2 miles and headed back out of the path. I decided that I didn't want to go back the same way that I always do, and decided that I could go down Park Ave. But how could I do that? That street is SOO HILLY! I did a quick motivational pick me up to my mind and at that second I made the commitment to take the hilly route home. You can ask anyone that I've ever run with that I am the last person that would ever run hills. I actually map my runs avoiding all hills, or even slight inclines, but today was different. I took on each hill that this street gave me. The little hills became easier and the "big" hills became manageable.
It's not too often that EVERYTHING goes right on a run, but today was one of those days and I took full advantage of the situation. I was home by 8am, and I even celebrated with some homemade blueberry banana bread french toast! What a way to start a holiday weekend!
